Question by Dax: LLC question on filling out a W-9?
I have an LLC. On the W-9, there’s a space to check Limited Liability Company and then your check your tax classification as D (disregarded entity), c (corporation) or p (partnership). I figured that is where I check, but I don’t know which classification. I was thinking since I want to file individual with business taxes, I could check “D”… How off am I here? Am I completely wrong and do I need to check sole proprietorship since there is just one owner?

you are a corporation, and should have a EIN from the IRS to fill in.

well I got a huge chunk of change, but it mostly went to bills and my kids…(they got a lot since they were the reason I got the money in the first place)

This is impossible to answer without more specifics.

How many miles to and from work, is your office at home or a remote location, what items have been purchased specifically for the company, and thousands of other things that need to be answered (like how many dependents).

Grossing that much money, you need to go to a tax professional.

It is simply not possible to provide the answer needed without having your entire business laid bare here for the world to see (and it would take a lot more space than available here).

I was part of a lawsuit and now I’m receiving a settlement check. The lawyers office sent me a W-9 form to fill out. It asks if I am an Individual, LLC, corporation, or exempt payee. There is no other form explaning anything except this one form. Am I am individual or an exempt payee?

If you want the payment payable to you, then you are an individual and you provide them with your social security number.
