This is my first job,i am a dependent and have been a dependent of my parents legally.i dont owe the govt anything im just a kid,

The IRS doesn’t care if you are a three eyed albino; you still owe taxes if taxes are due. If you are going to earn less than $ 5,700 then you should owe no federal income tax; and as a student you file a return releasing your dependency to your parents.

Hi, I am a computer technician and I work for myself. I am a full time student also, I went to a company to fix their computers and they gave me a paper which is “Request for taxpayer identification and certification” and it asks me for my Social security number.
should I fill this form ? or just tell them that I wanna get a check ?
is it ok if I give them my social sec # ?

If you don’t give them the form, they shouldn’t hire you (after all you haven’t given them proof that you can legally work!)–or if they do, they will withhold 28%-30% of your payment for taxes.

Hi, my Corporation is no longer in business, and dissolved last year. Now, an old client of my company is requesting me to fill a W-9 form (due to their late tax filings). My question is that, should I provide such document to them? am I still authorized to provide such document since the company is now dissolved?

They should have asked for the W-9 *before* paying you.
Since you already declared the income when you received it, this is a non-issue. Give it to them. Otherwise, they will issue you a 1099-Misc under your name/address and this will create a huge mess.

I did a freelance project for around $ 1200 dollars and am splitting it with a friend who helped me. How much in taxes do you think I’ll have to pay on that so I can determine how I can pay my friend?

Back up, did you get your “friend” to give you a W-9? You need his info before you can deduct his half from the schedule C.
For $ 600, you will owe $ 85 in SE tax. You will add, effectively, $ 558 to your income. If you are in the 15% tax bracket, plan on $ 84 for income tax, or a total of $ 169.

I went to a job interview about two months ago, and they reimbursed me for my gas. (About $ 60) Now I just received a W-9 form asking for my SS#. I am not accepting the job and they have already sent me the check for the gas and I already cashed it. Why are they sending me this W-9 and what happens if I do fill it out, and what if I don’t fill it out??? Thank you for your help!

anytime a business cuts a check to a vendor they must have a w9 form to coincide with it for their taxes. They want you to fill it out to claim that money. tallk to an accountant and ask tem if it was necessary for you to claim that money. I dont think its really anything to worry about
