Q&A: Is the government really planning on not giving us or New York State refund tax checks this year?

Question by ♀♂: Is the government really preparing on not providing us or New York State refund tax checks this year?
I have heard that the government is planning on withholding our state tax checks to help with the deficit, or something like that. Is this true? Has anyone else heard this? And if this is true, are we EVER going to get the cash back or are they trying to keep it permanently?
Camille that was the least beneficial factor you could have potentially mentioned.
Thank you Alex.

This was proposed by the governor, but not sure if it will be implemented. They are saying the delays would be a number of weeks. New York is in negative shape, but not in this kind of dire straights that it will retain the refunds, or delay them for a lengthy period of time (at least not yet).

If I worked in another state for the summer how do I file the STATE tax?

Query by rjc_12: If I worked in an additional state for the summer how do I file the STATE tax?
My permanent residence is in PA but I worked last summer time in NJ. Do I file the taxes separately for each state or just incorporate the W2 from NJ onto my PA state tax form?

Very best answer:

Answer by Mark S
Just before you file, examine to see if any agreements exist amongst NJ and PA. The two states may have reciprical agreements exactly where taxes are owed only to 1 state.

If there is no agreement, you would file a non-resident return for NJ for the income earned in NJ. You would file a Resident return in PA for all revenue earned such as that from NJ sources. You would get a credit for taxes paid to NJ on your PA return.

Can the state of Oregon take money from my state tax return?

Query by Missy_Pauline: Can the state of Oregon take money from my state tax return?
Ok, so I have two W-2 forms. When I add one particular of them it says I get funds back from my state tax return. But when I add the other it says I owe taxes… I also remember receiving a letter from the Oregon Income and it explained they had been going to garnish my wages (unpaid ticket) from my old work but I do not perform there any longer. Which is the W-2 when I extra says I owe taxes. So does this mean they took out cash from my state tax return to pay off my debt with the Oregon State Revenue?
